The Movie
Project X is a suspense-filled thriller set in a remote California power plant. It centers around 6 plant workers whose lives are threatened when a government expirement goes bad and a terrifying, deadly creature attacks the power plant.
While it has all the thrills and chills of a suspense film, we've taken a great deal of care to make this a character piece. Our desire is to follow these people through the entire struggle. Some characters personify fear, pride, and anger. Still others show us hope, wisdom, and courage. Ultimately, true heroism is tested as the characters' choices and attitudes determine not only their own survival, but the survival of those around them.
The Project
Project X is unique in a number of different ways. First, it's a feature-length film created entirely by students. Everyone, from the writers and producers down to the grips and PAs, is a student. For young people to set out on an endeavor like this is both rare and risky.
What's perhaps more unique though, is that this isn't just any kind of feature-film. It's an action-packed, visual effects intensive movie. We must not only tackle the already enormous task of producing a two-hour motion picture. Somehow, we must also create visual effects on the level and scope of most major Hollywood pictures.
We're not afraid of these challenges, though. We're artists—so we're naturally creative. Our crew, the Monsters of Efficiency, spent three years building the skills and methods necessary to approach a film of this magnitude. Our past experience and our innovative approaches enabled us to make this dream a reality.
Finishing the Race
Project X was shot in January of 2005. Since then, our team has been hard at work with the difficult and compicated post-production process. Editing has taken many months, as we work to refine the film and its story to make it clear, concise, engaging, and suspensful.

The complicated visual effects process will take the most time as we create our digital creature and place it in the scenes with our actors. Work is already well underway for this process and the results are astounding. Partnered with Biola University, our visual effects artists have been given access to industry-level equipment, software, and advisors. Visual effects work will continue through early 2006.
Ultimately, Project X has been and continues to be an amazing challenge for us, but we have faith that it will be a success. We hope and pray that the end result will be entertaining, as well as thought-provoking. Throughout the whole process, each student filmmaker on this project has experienced an unprecedented educational experience. Every day, even as we practice what we already know, we face new challenges that we must overcome—Project X has become a perfect place for all of us to learn and perfect the art and craft of filmmaking.
